Bill Cosby who is now 83, has been released from prison after Pennsylvania’s highest court threw out his sexual assault. Cosby is a well known actor and comedian and was once known as “America’s Dad”. While on screen he played a loving father, and overall gentleman, behind the scenes he was a sexual deviant. This all came to light after more than 50 women came forth and accused him of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct. As a result of the #metoo movement, many victims of abuse have been encouraged to speak out and help bring awareness. The Bible says that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Despite there being several witnesses testifying against Mr. Cosby, his case was still overturned. One can speculate that his celebrity status and riches played a role in this. Celebrities rarely suffer the same penalties a normal person would.
Ecclesiastes 5:8 “If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.”
Cosby was originally sentenced to serve a 3-10 year sentence in prison. However he only served two years. He now finds himself back in his home with a tarnished reputation. His statue was removed from the MGM Hollywood Studios park in Florida, and several colleges removed honorary degrees they had given him. Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. It took Mr. Cosby years to build up a good name, but as the Bible says a little folly, or in his case, much folly ruined his reputation.
