20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
Here, Jesus Christ is comparing Himself to leaven being hid in three measures of meal. Leaven has permeating properties that cause it to spread throughout the meal until it finally saturates every area with its presence.
We then read in verse 22, "And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem." Just as the leaven pervades the meal that it inhabits, Jesus went about the cities and villages saturating the Word of God throughout the different regions. One man was able to make an incredible impact by simply, methodically, and persistently going from house to house until the whole meal was leavened.
Today I am reminded of the fact that God does wonders through one person who is willing to saturate their region with the gospel. All it takes is a little leaven... a little faith... a little obedience... a little boldness... and a few people to make a big difference in the lives of those around them. Every city is a measure of meal awaiting a little leaven to be strategically placed there until the whole is leavened.
"Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." - Acts 5:28
